Orchid Bay, also known as Captain’s Creek, is one of the most sought-after communities in Palm City. It is located south of the Palm City Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, from Mapp Road. The securely gated neighborhood is made up of 153 homesites, of which only two are still vacant and available for development. Each lot is at least a half-acre, with some over an acre, so the residents enjoy nearly unmatched privacy and tranquility.
Orchid Bay Palm City was planned and developed in the early 1990s by the Tartan Company and had no single builder responsible for the homes. The beautiful result of this is one of the few communities in the area that avoid the “cookie-cutter” syndrome of many other neighborhoods. Each lot’s original owner contracted their own construction, and as a result, the homes in this area are wonderfully diverse. The Orchid Bay homeowners’ association charges dues of around $200 each month as of this writing, which are payable on a quarterly schedule. The dues cover the maintenance of the community roads and common areas, refuse pickup and disposal, and basic cable TV service for the residents. They also provide two tennis courts, a children’s play area, and a park, as well as a community gazebo, picnic table, and outdoor grill.
The Orchid Bay Palm City neighborhood is rich with lakes and ponds in the immediate vicinity, and many of the residents in this community cherish their beautiful water views. There is a private boat launch directly onto Mapps Creek for residents who enjoy canoeing or kayaking. The homeowners’ association also maintains a community propane tank so that all residents have the option to utilize propane for their utilities if they so choose.
